One room, two shifts

Same room. Same people. Different volume.

FROM EIGHT IN THE MORNING

From eight in the morning it's a coffee shop. Rotating beans from Northern roasters, a house blend with Swan Song over in Salford, cake on the counter, dogs on the pavement, the big window and a communal table you're welcome to take over for two hours with a laptop.

Every other Monday we move the tables, plug a microphone in, and somebody plays their first ever gig on a floor that had a pram on it at lunchtime.

FORTNIGHTLY MONDAYS · 7–11PM · FREE

Stomp Open Mic

Run with Lo-Tide Collective, who have been building open mic nights across Greater Manchester for years. It's free to come in and free to play, and if you play you get a drink on us.

Acoustic, blues, folk, country, reggae, poetry, storytelling. First-timers get the same room as everyone else, which is the point.

FROM 8AM

The coffee bit

House blend from Swan Song Coffee Roasters, roasted in Salford on a fully electric machine. Guest beans rotate. Loose-leaf tea, Bare Bones hot chocolate, alternative milks, and brewing kit on the shelf if you want to do it properly at home.

Cake, sandwiches, breakfast, lunch. A short menu done well rather than a long one done at speed.

SK4

Four and a half miles from Piccadilly. Nowhere near it.

The shopfront on a quiet Heaton Moor street, bicycle and lamp post outside

Heaton Chapel station is four and a half miles down the line from Manchester Piccadilly, and Shaw Road feels like a different county. Victorian streets, a market on the first Sunday of the month, and a run of independents you could spend a whole evening on without getting in a taxi.

We're the one with the music.

WHO'S IN

The room is the point

We said years ago that good coffee and good food bring people together. The microphone was the obvious next step.

Whoever you are — regular, first-timer, someone who's been meaning to play in front of people for a decade — the door's the same width for everybody.
